Our Story
JJ and Anna met on a beautiful balmy spring evening. As they disembarked from their bikes, meeting each other precisely on time (unusual and intentional on Anna’s part) there was an immediate spark. JJ says, “As I rolled up to the restaurant, from two blocks away I saw Anna. I saw her recognize me and her face light up like a pinball machine, with the biggest smile I’ve ever seen on a first date.” Anna was more excited for this date than she had been in years. When she saw JJ in person, she immediately recognized them as more than just a handsome face: their warmth and humor were immediately tangible. Four hours later, Anna and JJ were the last guests to leave the restaurant. On the corner, under the streetlamp a hug turned into kisses. Eventually they clambered back onto their bikes and said goodbye. Anna was so smitten she biked in the wrong direction for twenty minutes.
Dates at the park and beach led to outings with friends, a first Pride celebration together and fireworks upstate. On Anna’s 34th birthday, JJ brought Anna to Fire Island. A morning beach celebration was too opportune a moment for Anna not to say what she’d known for weeks. As they clambered back over the sand, coffee drunk and gift laden Anna turned into the sunlight and told JJ “I love you”. Thankfully, they said it back.
Anna on JJ; “Their creative intelligence inspires me, and their kindness and strength keeps me grounded every day. I honestly can’t imagine how I got so lucky; JJ is the person I dreamed about for my whole life. I feel like a kid again, in the best possible way, so deeply cared for, lovingly challenged and so free to be.”
JJ on Anna; “Her big heart, her joy and imagination, inspires me to think expansively and act with generosity. I love Anna’s love of the outside world and her passion for people. I am so grateful to find the girl I love, respect and believe in so much. And that we get to build a life and a love that we get to imagine together. "
